Using Right Speech

May 7th, 2009 | Teachings |

It is important we are careful to use right speech. Even what we consider a harmless remark can hurt someone. Teasing people with comments is like teasing a lion. You never know what the result is going to be and it may be bad. We should also not tell lies. It was once said it is easier to tell the truth because you do not have to remember what you made up. We should also not speak divisively, as to cause a problem between people. We should not use harsh or vulgar words, and we should not speak idly, i.e. chit-chatting or gossiping about others. It is nice to fall in love, but sometimes we fall in love with our own voice and this is a wrong kind of love. Speech is useful but sometimes we speak just to speak when it would behoove us to be quiet.
