Wu-wei
Wu-wei is described as the practice of non-doing. Do nothing and everything will get done. This can sometimes be confusing. An example of wu-wei would be if you are at a restaurant. It is your favorite table. Perhaps a beautiful view of water flowing under an old wooden bridge. Or maybe overlooking a lake with ducks and geese. You sit down and there is a crying baby at the next table. You have three options; 1) you can make a scene and get upset; 2) you can ask for another table, one that does not have such a splendid view; or 3) you are mindful and you notice the family with the baby is getting ready to leave. By being patient and waiting a few minutes, the baby is gone and you are still at your favorite table. You have also diffused a situation where you could have gotten angry and upset. That is wu-wei in action, or non-action. You did nothing, yet because of your mindfulness, things got done. Wu-wei is doing only what is needed, not in a lazy sense of the words, but keeping balanced and not overdoing.
