A New Leaf

Filed under: Teachings — roshihogan @ 12:09 am

Sometimes people say they have turned over a new leaf. Of course, that is just an expression. We cannot turn over a new leaf. I am afraid we are stuck with the leaf we already have. Maybe it is dried, crinkly, not very colorful or pretty. Perhaps not the prettiest leaf on the tree. Yet, it is our leaf and it is beautiful. We have to take good care of it. Give it plenty of sunshine, water, and fresh air. Our leaf is capable of giving as much shade as the leaves surrounding it. Sometimes, we are too busy comparing ourselves to the leaves around us. We lose focus of how beautiful our own leaf is. We must play the hand we are dealt , and do our best. That is success. That is a good practice. We really are not turning over a new leaf, but we can learn to take better care of the one we have. Appreciate its individuality. The biggest, most beautiful leaf may be plucked from the tree and wind up pressed in a dusty book. We do not want to wind up in a book. Our aim should be to dance in the wind and caress the raindrops.
