Making A Cake

Filed under: Teachings — roshihogan @ 12:04 am

Maybe one day we decide we want to make a delicious cake. The first thing we have to do is find a good recipe. Now that we have the recipe, we need to check and make sure we have the ingredients. If the recipe calls for eggs and we do not have any, we need to go to the market and buy some. We cannot be lazy and substitute peanut butter instead. The cake will not come out right if we do that. Lao Tzu said that if we follow the wisdom of the Tao, all good virtues will manifest within us. He did not say we could follow a few things and disregard the rest of the ones we do not like or find inconvenient. There is only one way to becoming one with the universe. There are no shortcuts or substitutions. If we want our cake to be tasty, we have to follow the recipe and use the right ingredients. Not too much of one thing or too little of another. If we follow it exactly; the right recipe, the right ingredients, the right time and temperature of the oven, the result will be a delicious cake. Do not be lazy trying to bake your cake or you will be dissatisfied with the results.
