Two Points

They say the shortest distance between two points is a direct straight line. When we consider right speech, we might say the best way is sometimes a gentle, graceful curve. Sometimes being direct even if being honest is not right speech. If our honesty causes suffering, we must look to present our honesty in a subtle and non-hurtful way. Often, it is not so much what is said, but how it is said. Right speech means being tactful and considerate. It does not mean being brutally honest to the point of causing someone suffering.
